Real Oviedo returned to the same ground to face the same opponent, for the second time in less than 72 hours. The Asturians grew as today's game progressed at La Rosaleda and deserved to take more than a draw home with them, but the clash ended in a 1-1 draw.
Los Azules made two changes to the starting eleven which had drawn the previous league match against Mallorca, with Lucas and Marco Sangalli coming in to the team. Both sides had chances in the early stages, although the home side dominated the opening period. The hosts took the lead from a set piece, with Rahmani firing a fine strike into the top corner from the edge of the area. Lucas tried his luck from outside the box, but his shot went over the bar. Rodri couldn't quite get enough contact onto a Jimmy cross from the right-hand side, and his effort grazed the upright. Javi Mier also went close from a difficult volleyed opportunity. Marco Sangalli did find a way through from a rebound, after Nahuel and Gustavo had both
had efforts blocked, but his goal was disallowed for an offside in the build-up. Javi Mier had the final chance for the visitors prior to the interval, but his header went narrowly wide.
The second half continued in much the same fashion as the end of the first half, with Real Oviedo dominating and pushing to find an equaliser. It eventually came from Nahuel, who got in behind the defence and saw his shot deflected goalwards, with Rodri shielding it into the net to make the score 1-1. Real Oviedo had some more opportunities on the counter attack, but were unable to convert. Ziganda looked to his bench, bringing on Obeng and Borja Valle for Blanco Leschuk and Rodrigo. Los Carbayones were given a scare when the referee initially awarded a penalty against them, but VAR correctly overturned the decision. Shortly afterwards, Málaga defender Escassi was dismissed for a second yellow, with the hosts going down to ten
men in the 82nd minute. Obeng had a chance to find a winner from a Juanjo Nieto cross, getting a feint touch on the ball in, but Dani Barrio tipped it around the post for a corner. Real Oviedo had several corner kicks, but the attempts on goal were disallowed for offside. Borja Valle fired just wide with a low shot from the edge of the box.
Real Oviedo created a lot of chances but were unable to convert them, as they took home less reward than they deserved from La Rosaleda.
