An intense performance from the team from the capital of Asturias helped them to a second consecutive win today. Los Azules went in search of goals right from the opening minutes in Matchday 13 at the Carlos Tartiere, and dealt with Málaga's threat well in the first half.
Femenías; Lucas, David Costas, Dani Calvo, Mossa; Sangalli, Brugman, Jimmy, Viti; Obeng and Borja Bastón was the starting eleven chosen by Ziganda for today's encounter, and the hosts dominated the match right from kick-off.
Real Oviedo were on top in the first half, starting the match very well and showing intent to go for the win, pick up a second consecutive victory, and earn three important points as they looked to move up the table. Ziganda's team were well-organised out on the pitch and solid defensively, against a Málaga side who only threatened with a couple of shots from the edge of the box. Real Oviedo had the best chances of the first half, with the widemen creating danger. Borja Bastón opened the scoring in the 19th minute of the fixture, converting from a fine corner kick to make the score 1-0. Cuco Ziganda's side dominated the play and the possession, barely allowing the Andalusians any of the ball. Málaga did attempt the odd counter attack, but the home defence dealt with it well, and went in for halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The second half was end-to-end, with Málaga showing great urgency as they looked to equalise. The visitors dominated the first part of the second half, and while Real Oviedo were well-organised, the Asturians were forced to work hard defensively. The Andalusians did eventually make the score 1-1, which caused Ziganda's team to get back on the attack and look to regain the lead. Viti had a chance on the counter, but was unable to convert. Jirka and Pombo came on in the first changes and brought energy and spark to the attack. Matheus and Pierre also featured. The match ended with the team from the capital of Asturias pouring forward in attack, and Real Oviedo would eventually get their reward when Borja Bastón headed home the second. The striker completed his fine individual performance with a brace, giving Ziganda's side victory.
Los Azules picked up three points today against Málaga, moving them onto nineteen points and cutting the gap to the playoff positions. Real Oviedo will be back in action in midweek when they travel to Ipurua to face Eibar.
