Real Oviedo had to win, and they did win. The side welcomed CD Mirandés to the Carlos Tartiere this evening in Matchday 37 of LaLiga Smartbank, with the club needing three points in order to move out of the relegation zone.
Ziganda rotated his side once more and opted for a very attacking team. Borja and Sangalli were on the wings, while the two strikers were Ortuño and Ibra. Real Oviedo emerged for the match aware of the importance of winning, and Ibra had the first opportunity after only a few minutes. Tejera swung a wide free kick into the box, but Ibra's header was denied by Limones in the Mirandés net. The hosts were very organised in defence and the forward men were creating opportunities, but without finding the way through. However, in the 40th minute, Ibra got in front of one of the visiting defenders inside the area and was brought down, with the referee awarding the penalty. Alfredo Ortuño converted and put Real Oviedo into the lead.
In the second half, Real Oviedo managed to contain the visitors' threat and tried to use counter attacks to double the advantage on the scoresheet. One such piece of play saw Borja put a cross into the box, and a collision between Ibra and Limones, which resulted in both players being substituted. Ziganda brought on Lolo González in attempt to gain control of the play in the middle of the park. Christian Fernández and Obeng were the other two changes used.
Real Oviedo knew how to battle for three important points today, which see them move out of the relegation places. The team now begins to think about its next opponent, Cádiz.
