Real Oviedo left La Romareda empty-handed, with Real Zaragoza winning the match in the second half. The Asturians had the match under control up until that point, although they didn’t create too much danger in attack.
Anquela once again opted for his usual starting eleven, with David Rocha returning from suspension. The first chance for the away side came from the left wing, with Folch meeting Mossa’s cross, but his attempt was blocked by the defence. Next, Rocha fired wide from Aarón’s pass from the left wing. Alfonso stretched a hand out to clear the danger from a Zaragoza counter attack. Aarón then had the clearest chance, firing across goal, but the home goalkeeper tipped it around the post for a corner. Real Oviedo pushed on in the final stages of the first half, in one attack seeing three successive shots kept out, with the move finally being ended by an offside.
Christian Fernández had the clearest chance in the early part of the second half, meeting a set piece at the back post, but he was denied by Cristian Álvarez. Alfonso Herrero and Mossa then had to keep out two shots in quick succession. However, minutes later the home side did manage to open the scoring. A through ball found Borja Iglesias, who fired into the corner of the net. Shortly afterwards, misfortune saw an own goal double the score to 2-0. Anquela brought on Toché and then Fabbrini and Yeboah, as Real Oviedo pushed to reduce the deficit right up until the final whistle. In the ninetieth minute, Carlos Hernández cut the lead to 2-1, but there was no time left to find the equaliser. Saúl Berjón was sent off for a second yellow on the stroke of fulltime.
This defeat saw Real Oviedo leave empty-handed, but still in the playoff places. The team will return to training tomorrow.
