Making two changes to the starting eleven, both on the left wing, Real Oviedo emerged in front of 100 travelling fans at Almendralejo, wearing all white and in search of the three points.
The team played with a lot of intensity, controlled the match, got forward well, and took its chances. Ziganda's side completely cancelled out Extremadura in the first half and, following two earlier attacks, Rodrigo opened the scoring in the 15th minute. It came from a well-worked move, and ended with a Juanjo Nieto cross being converted by the forward from inside the box. Following a VAR check, the goal counted. Yoel Bárcenas had the chance to make it 0-2 from a one-on-one on the stroke of halftime, but Casto made a fine save.
Extremadura emerged the stronger side for the second half, but Real Oviedo withstood the early pressure. The Asturians were organised in defence and made the most of the chances on the counter. Lunin made a good save from a free kick, before Ibra came on from the bench. Sangalli then fired home a screamer from outside the box, which flew into the top corner. The hosts pushed forward in attack, and managed to cut the deficit to 1-2 in added time.
The team will return to Oviedo by coach and train at 10:30 tomorrow at El Requexón.
