Real Oviedo wanted to win at the Tartiere but they couldn’t do so. The first home victory of the season again evaded Juan Antonio Anquela’s team, after he had opted for the same starting eleven that had earned the win at Lugo last weekend.
Elche began the match much more strongly and pressed right from the first minute, before opening the scoring in just the fifth minute. Manuel Sánchez headed home from a corner to put Pacheta’s side into the lead. Pacheta, a former Real Oviedo Coach, had been welcomed back to the Carlos Tartiere with great affection. Real Oviedo responded after the goal and they pushed on until they finally managed to equalise. Joselu made the most of a mistake by José Juan to make the score 1-1, bringing the Asturian side back into the match. Saúl Berjón went close before the break as he fired a long-range effort against the post, as Real Oviedo continued to create chances.
Elche took control of the match as the second half progressed. Boateng tried a shot from the edge of the box at the start of the second half, which the away keeper gathered at the second attempt. Despite making changes to freshen up the attack, Real Oviedo found it difficult to combine and create danger, as Elche looked to the counter attack to hurt the home side. Anquela’s side defended solidly, but were unable to make the most of any of their chances, and the match ended with a 1-1 draw at the Carlos Tartiere.
The team will return to training at 10:30 tomorrow at El Requexón.
