Real Oviedo travelled to Madrid this weekend to face Leganés at Butarque. The hosts were expected to spend the season challenging at the top of the table, but went into the match in need of three points.
Ziganda opted for a starting eleven made up of Femenías; Lucas, David Costas, Dani Calvo, Pierre; Viti, Brugman, Jimmy, Borja Sánchez; Matheus Aiás and Borja Bastón, with the latter returning to the club where he spent last season.
The first half began with Leganés fulfilling their role as the home side by carrying the weight of the game and forcing the Asturians to press high up the pitch to try to win the ball back. Femenías and the Carbayón defence played a key role in dealing with the Leganés threat. The clearest chance of the half fell to Arnáiz, with Femenías tipping the ball onto the crossbar. Matheus had a go in attack, but he was forced out by the home defence, in a brief respite before Femenías and the away defence were called into action once more. The teams went in for halftime with the score 0-0.
Real Oviedo re-emerged after the interval at a higher tempo and were more involved in the game than in the first half. Ziganda turned to his bench and introduced Pombo and Sangalli. The former was behind the brightest moments for Los Azules. The side created a few decent chances, including one which saw Borja Sánchez denied by the centre backs. Luismi and Obeng were next to enter the fray, and they helped Real Oviedo to withstand a strong period from Leganés, as the hosts failed to find a way past Femenías. Carlos Isaac came on in the final change, and the match ended with a few opportunities from Real Oviedo from set pieces, most notably a Dani Calvo header.
The team from the capital of Asturias picked up a point from Butarque today. The next fixture will see Real Oviedo play Amorebieta at home.
