Anquela: "Be a team"

The Coach insists on “building ourselves upon respect for our opponent and respect for the division, and from there, competing as if each match is our last”

There are no reactions yet. Be the first!

Real Oviedo Head Coach Juan Antonio Anquela appeared in the Press Room this morning to assess the week of training completed by his team ahead of the home match against CD Lugo.

When asked about injuries, the Real Oviedo Coach explained that “Saúl is fine, and as for Carlos (Martínez) we’ll have to wait until tomorrow.” He admitted he was “concerned with the match, and I always say the same, but I will not get tired of repeating it because there is no other answer.” The Coach also commented that “Lugo is an opponent that is playing much better than the numbers suggest. We have to come out and compete right from the beginning, and do the things that are required.”

Regarding the absence of Ramon Folch, Anquela commented that “I hope that whoever comes into his place does it as well as he has been doing it. Above all else, may we be a recognisable team, nothing more.” Talking about whether he had noticed any complacency in the squad, the Real Oviedo Coach was emphatic in stating that “we never think about becoming like that. Never. We have to treat every match with respect, and moreover, Lugo is a team that’s capable of winning here, just like anyone else. That is what concerns me, because I am watching their games and they are playing much better than the results suggest.”

The Jaen-born coach also spoke about the chances of Javi Muñoz coming into the team, saying “I can’t limit Javi, but we will try to be balanced. If something doesn’t work, then we will have to make a change, but hopefully we won’t have to.”

Following the draw in Albacete, Anquela concluded that “we did an exceptional job. We created the chances that a team playing away from home has to create, and we suffered very little. We are always thinking about continuing this good work, and if we are winning, then it’s even better. We are at home next, in front of our fans, and the only thing that I ask of them is to help us out, because we are going to have some difficult moments in which we are going to struggle. We have to build ourselves upon respect for our opponent and respect for the division, and from there, compete as if each match is our last. In this division, anyone can beat you at any time, anywhere. If you are not focused on the match during the week, don’t even try to be on matchday.”
