Anquela: “Competing is the magic word”

The Coach expects to face a “professional” Nàstic side, and issues a reminder that “if we aren’t at 100%, we don’t beat anybody”

Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, today appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón.

Ahead of the clash at the Nou Estadi, the Coach explained that “there are some people that are almost ready, but we weren’t quite able to get anybody back. Aarón has been ruled out today. He can’t travel, and we will take a B team player instead.” In addition, regarding Carlos Hernández, the Coach said that, “he’s ready to play, but not to be in the matchday squad. We have to wait so that he doesn’t suffer another setback.”

Talking about the choice between one formation and another, the Coach reasoned that, “the other day we played with three at the back in one half and four in the other, which was when we turned the game around. It’s not a question of numbers, but of attitude.”

Asked about the mood around the team this week, the Coach said that, “everything was different last week, but I’m not going to change the things I say. We are finding it hard to win matches because this is very difficult. If we aren’t at 100%, we don’t beat anybody. It’s hard for every team and we are no different. This division is beautiful, but only for those looking in from the outside. We all want to put a run of results together and find consistency. Each game is decided on individual seconds, and you just have to compete. That’s the magic word. We have to know what we want and play good football.”

Regarding Nàstic de Tarragona and their new coach, Anquela commented that, “they will be a professional team which competes. Enrique needs less than two days to decide what he wants to do and put together a team.”

With respect to the way in which goals are being shared around the attacking players, the Coach did not show any interest, highlighting that, “I’m happy that Saúl has three goals, but the rest will score them soon. It’s hard to score in the Segunda. We have options. We must stay calm and be clinical with our finishing.”

Asked about the controversy surrounding Christian Fernández during the past week, Anquela assured that, “I defend all of my footballers. It’s very easy to say that we know Christian. This is a game and people know what they are getting in to. Christian is a very good person who competes, and at times we need to stay calm.”

Finally, when asked about the statement published by the club yesterday afternoon, Anquela responded that, “if the boss has come out saying what must be done then there’s no more to it, he’s the boss. These are our fans. We are governed by what the law says, and there’s no more to it,” he concluded.
