It was their third game in less than a week, and following two draws Real Oviedo wanted a victory. Anquela chose almost the same starting eleven as he had on Wednesday at the Carlos Tartiere, with the only changes being Valentini coming in in place of Verdés and the return of Christian Fernández following suspension.

The match was less than three minutes old when bad luck struck once more for Juan Antonio Anquela’s side. Christian Fernández turned the ball into his own net for the first goal of the game, giving Granada an early lead. Real Oviedo dominated the first forty-five minutes, with the home side unable to create too much in attack. Los Carbayones’ chances mainly came from set pieces, as well as a Toché shot at the near post, that the keeper kept out on the line.

Following the interval, Granada delivered another blow; making the score 2-0 and sealing the victory. There was still a long way to go in the match, but Real Oviedo were unable to come back into it, despite Anquela’s immediate introduction of Linares and Johannesson from the bench. Granada had chances to extend their lead, and Juan Carlos kept out a one-on-one which could have led to the third goal. Javi Varas made a couple of saves before the final whistle. The match ended with a home victory and with Real Oviedo failing to find the net for the first time this season.
