Real Oviedo suffered a painful, heavy defeat at Los Pajaritos, in a match in which the Asturians were completely outplayed by a strong Numancia side, who took charge of the game in the first half and sealed the win in the Nsecond.
Anquela made three changes to the starting eleven but maintained the same formation. Verdés came in for the suspended Forlín, Johannesson replaced Cotugno at wing back, and Mossa was on the left wing, while Saúl played as an attacking midfielder. The early minutes were even, with chances for both sides. The best effort saw Saúl Berjón’s free kick tipped around the post by Aitor Fernández. Real Oviedo got forward, but couldn’t create too much danger, while Alfonso had to make a great save to deny Numancia’s best early chance. The hosts then opened the scoring, however, with Guillermo heading home Pablo Valcarce’s cross. Five minutes later, Valcarce himself added the second, leaving Real Oviedo shaken going into the break.
Numancia sealed the win in the second half, making the score 3-0 in the 53rd minute. Pablo Valcarce was again the scorer, with the Real Oviedo defence having made several blocks in the build up. Anquela brought on Linares, Fabbrini and Yeboah, but even that was not enough to provide a reaction or a goal.
This was a tough defeat in front of 500 travelling away fans, and one which leaves Real Oviedo outside of the playoff positions for another week. The team will resume training tomorrow at 10:30 at El Requexón.
