Real Oviedo picked up a point from their trip to the Mini Estadi. The Asturians grew in strength in the second half, and had chances to take home an even greater prize from their clash with FC Barcelona B.
Anquela chose the same starting eleven as he’d used in the previous match, and the team started the game well. However, Barcelona B slowly increased their possession as the minutes ticked by. Following some fine play between Toché, Aarón and Saúl, Pucko missed the target under pressure, before Saúl’s shot was claimed by the home goalkeeper. These were the first chances for Real Oviedo, who found themselves busy in defence during the next period of the game. Folch had the next chance, but he hit it first time and over the bar. FC Barcelona B then took the lead, five minutes before the break.
Real Oviedo emerged for the second half and went in pursuit of the draw from the very first minute. Folch was first to go close, meeting a corner at the front post, but the keeper denied him. Anquela brought on Linares, and the away side’s pressure would see them rewarded, as Carlos Hernández headed home from a corner to equalise. Toché had a chance to give Los Carbayones the lead from Cotugno’s right-wing cross. Linares then had an opportunity at the back post, which grazed the post as the defence failed to clear. Juan Carlos was only called into action once, saving a shot which had become more dangerous having taken a deflection. Real Oviedo had the final chances in added time, but they couldn’t find a winner to take home from their visit to the Mini Estadi.
The team will train in Barcelona tomorrow before returning to Asturias. The next training session at El Requexón will be on Tuesday at 10:30.
