Real Oviedo arrived at Vallecas with the same starting eleven, and it was very apparent that they went there in search of another three points.  The team did well in the opening minutes, with Saúl and Tejera both having chances, although Lunin was also put to the test by Rayo.  Saúl tried his luck from a very long way out, trying to catch Dimitrieski off his line, and narrowly missed his target.  However, a pre-planned set play was carried out to perfection by Berjón and Rodrigo, with the latter making the score 1-0.  Rayo attempted to hit back with a strike from the edge of the box, but were denied by the Real Oviedo keeper.  Little more happened before the interval.
Rayo shuffled their pack, while Real Oviedo also made a double substitution in the 60th minute.  Coris and Saúl left the field, and were replaced by Jimmy and Lolo in midfield, as the Asturians switched to a back three, with wing backs on the flanks.  Rayo barely created any clear cut chances. However, a set play led to a VAR check, and the referee blew for a penalty for a Lolo handball.  Rayo equalised from the spot, and Rozada was dismissed for his protests.  The team still managed to recover.  Bárcenas came on in the final change.  Los Azules had a couple more chances before full time, but were unable to find the winning goal.
The team picked up a point in front of the travelling Oviedistas, who got behind their team once more, and will be there with them in another crucial match on Saturday at the Carlos Tartiere.
