Nothing worked out well for Real Oviedo at El Alcoraz. The team suffered a heavy defeat against SD Huesca, bringing Oviedo’s long unbeaten run to an end.
Oviedo made two changes to the starting eleven, with Óscar Gil replacing the suspended Verdés and Michu coming in for Jon Erice, and they were to have the first chance of the match. Susaeta took a free kick from just outside the box, but was unable to open the scoring. Juan Carlos intervened shortly afterwards with a fine outstretched hand at the other end to deny the hosts, and Susaeta showed good awareness to clear the rebound. Huesca’s first goal would soon arrive, however, from David Ferreiro’s direct free kick. Seven minutes later Melero made it 2-0 to the home side, and they would grab their third before halftime.
The second half began with a red card for Óscar Gil, for a second yellow card. Hierro quickly brought Jon Erice on in place of Linares, which saw Real Oviedo increase their possession of the ball, but lack cutting edge in attack. Huesca knew how to manage their advantage on the scoreboard, and Oviedo were unable to make inroads, even with the introduction of Pereira and Ortiz to strengthen the attack. With Real Oviedo throwing players forward in attack, Huesca’s fourth goal arrived on the counter attack, through Ferreiro.
Real Oviedo will travel back to Oviedo by coach and resume training on Monday at 10:30, at El Requexón.
