Real Oviedo put in a sensational performance and secured a key victory against Levante UD today at the Carlos Tartiere. A first-half own goal proved enough for Los Azules to overcome one of the strongest teams in the division. The victory moves Paunovic's team into fourth place, on 62 points, and was a statement win in the fight for automatic promotion.
Escandell, Nacho Vidal, Calvo, Costas, Rahim, Sibo, Colombatto, Seoane, Hassan, Portillo, and Viñas made up the starting eleven for Real Oviedo today. Right from the outset Los Azules made their intentions clear, with possession, pressing, and an extra gear than their opponent. Rahim was a constant threat down the left wing, and got to the byline on repeated occasions to put crosses into the box. One such attack saw Ignasi Miquel inadvertently turn the ball into his own net to open the scoring.
The team maintained the same idea and playing style after the interval. After the introduction of Cardero and Luengo in place of Seoane and Costas, Eze then made his first-team debut, entering the fray in place of Dani Calvo, who was suffering with dizziness. Escandell was once again at his best, making a fantastic stoppage-time save to secure three key points, which allow the team to go into the final part of the season in great shape.
