Whatever the situation, a derby is always a derby. Real Oviedo were up to the task, and their fans passed with flying colours. A fantastic atmosphere in the build-up to the match, with the fans walking alongside the team bus from the hotel to the stadium, was followed by a deafening Carlos Tartiere from start to finish of the match.

Anquela made three changes to the starting eleven, with Javi Hernández and Mossa coming in, and Saúl Berjón returning from injury. Saúl managed to last for forty-five minutes, but that was long enough to see his team in the driving seat. ‘Los Azules’ rapidly took the lead. Ibra scored a bicycle kick from a ball which was rebounding around the box, sending the fans into raptures. Things remained the same after the goal, with Real Oviedo pushing on and creating chances. The second goal soon arrived, with Alanís heading past Mariño from Saúl Berjón’s set piece. The 2-0 lead gave some breathing space to Anquela’s side, who weren’t overly threatened before the break.

Having brought on Johannesson for Saúl for the start of the second half, Real Oviedo tried to maintain their intensity, but Sporting had a strong period. However, ‘Los Carbayones’ stood up to the test. Eventually, the visitors were awarded a penalty, and Carmona cut the deficit to 2-1 from the spot. Real Oviedo didn’t lose their composure, however, and Mariño was forced into an excellent save to prevent Johannesson’s great header from making the score 3-1.

The final whistle blew, and the Tartiere began to celebrate again. Real Oviedo went around their fans and enjoyed the moment. The enjoyment can continue only until the next training session, which will be at 18:00 on Tuesday, at El Requexón.
