AD Alcorcón brought the very worst out of Real Oviedo at Santo Domingo. The Madrid-based side were by far the superior side in a poor showing by Los Azules, who were unable to come back from falling behind early in the match.
Real Oviedo made just one change to the starting eleven that faced Levante last weekend, with Varela replacing Christian at left back, and the early stages of the match passed with no real chances for either side. It was the
very first attack of the match that saw David Navarro give the hosts the lead. Shortly afterwards he again put Juan Carlos to the test. Meanwhile Real Oviedo were unable to create any danger in the first half. Toribio increased the deficit before the break from a direct free kick.
Fernando Hierro looked for a reaction from his men after the break, making two changes. Toché and Nando came on in place of Fernández and Linares. Real Oviedo also changed formation, opting for three at the back and searching for more wide play and more opportunities between the lines, but to no avail. The third Alcorcón goal was supplied by David Rodríguez, against a Real Oviedo defence who were trying to push up the pitch. David Navarro then made the most of a Real Oviedo mistake to add the fourth, before Pereira grabbed Los Azules’ consolation goal in the very next attack. There was still time remaining in the game but neither David Rocha’s attempts from the edge of the box nor various corners could reduce the deficit further. With Real Oviedo heads dropping, the fifth and final goal was added for the hosts by Óscar Plano.
This was a defeat far from the Carlos Tartiere, but in front of 700 Oviedistas who travelled to Santo Domingo, who clapped the team off the pitch.
