Real Oviedo returned to winning ways in the Ramón de Carranza Stadium, securing their first victory away from the Carlos Tartiere for nine months. A professional and convincing win against Cádiz will give Los Azules a boost ahead of two consecutive home matches.
Cádiz began the match strongly in the first ten minutes. Real Oviedo, who had changed formation from previous matches, playing Jon Erice, Rocha and Torró together in central midfield, were initially looking to settle into the game. They became far more direct, threatening the opposition goal more easily. Toché provided a first warning after three minutes from a good long ball, which he couldn't quite get the required contact on, under pressure from the two Cádiz centre backs, and Cifuentes made the save. Fifteen minutes into the clash, however, Toché did manage to open the scoring. Rocha swung in the corner, which was first met by Verdés, before Toché applied the finishing touch to make it 1-0. Real Oviedo would become even more comfortable as the minutes passed, until the arrival of their second goal, provided by the same combination. Toché and Rocha combined, before the forward supplied a pass to Miguel Linares, who fired home first time with his right foot. Cádiz only tested Juan Carlos on one occasion, from a loose ball in the box which was fired into the keeper's hands.Nando had the final chance before halftime, in a fine piece of individual play, but he put too much on the shot. Peña was forced off through injury before the halftime whistle, to be replaced by Christian Fernández.
In the second half, Real Oviedo managed to maintain the scoreline, despite two halftime changes from Cádiz manager, Cervera. Cádiz had more threat up front, but failed to create clearcut opportunities, due to the professionalism and fine defensive display from Real Oviedo. Jon Erice crossed a ball into the box, perfect for Toché to meet with his head, but his header went just over. The forward had another go shortly afterwards, with a driven shot which was deflected wide. Michu and Susaeta came on to provide fresh legs, before the end of the match saw the dismissals of first Jon Erice, seeing red for a harsh, supposed act of foul play, as well as Cádiz's Silvestre. The final whistle came shortly afterwards, signalling Real Oviedo's first away win for ten months, crucial before two home matches against Numancia and Rayo Vallecano at the Carlos Tartiere.
The team will resume training on Wednesday at 10:30, at El Requexón.
