Real Oviedo midfielder Riki appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón today.

Having started preseason with the first team, the Oviedo-born midfielder declared himself “very happy” and admitted that “I’m proud to be here. I’m enjoying it as much as possible and giving it everything.”

Asked about the differences he’s noticed since making the step up to a higher level, the midfielder commented that “you feel it in the tempo, but little by little you catch up. The Coach asks me to keep it simple and be calm. It’s great with my teammates; I already knew them. The way we’re treated in the changing room is great, and I received a very good welcome.”

Regarding his return to the club, the youth-team player highlighted that “I had to leave, but it was worth it so that I could return later. I’ve met people over the course of the last few years who are back in professional football. You learn and see a normal life. Right now, it’s great to be with professional footballers. My spot is in the B team, but I hope to make my first-team debut. It’s a long season and we will all be important.” In addition, the Asturian admitted that “it’s hard to have to leave your home, but you have to enjoy football and be confident. I have another opportunity now and I have to prove myself.”

Finally, asked about the advantage of having well-known people in the club and squad, Riki concluded by reasoning that “it gives you confidence. They always tell me to stay calm. It’s good to have people you know next to you. There are good footballers in the squad. Tejera, Saúl (Berjón)... they have a lot of quality and you have to enjoy playing with them and also try to learn.”
