Real Oviedo Head Coach, Sergio Egea, today appeared in the Press Room at ElRequexón.

After last Saturday’s victory in Almeria, the Oviedo manager acknowledged that “this has been a good week, spirits are high, and training’s gone better. The victory was achieved thanks to the players. We got three important points, and now we must stay in the race.”

When asked what he’d said to the squad, Sergio Egea highlighted that “I told them something coherent, common sense, which was that they needed to be good, professional footballers. We are a big club, we are not inferior to anyone and that’s the reason why I trust them to compete and to try to reach the playoffs.”

On whether the squad had surprised him in his first weeks of training, the Argentine recognised that "I had always kept an eye on the squad, and had been following them. Once here, I noticed it is a healthy and united group, that trains at a high tempo and that can compete against any team".

Regarding his return home on Sunday, Egea said that "I feel very responsible. It’s a privilege to be here. We have to work, without detracting from what’s been done before, which deserves a lot of credit. We are going to fight to reach the playoffs in these last six games."

Ahead of Sunday's game, with respect to the approach he will use against the Andalusians, Sergio Egea said that "we will do the same as we did in Almería. We saw things that we can control, and we seek to have our own identity. Sunday will be the same, but we have to compete as the team that we are, with the good players we have, and we will compete in our own stadium. "

When asked about the reception he expects from fans at the Carlos Tartiere, Egea believes that "Real Oviedo fans always support their team. They are demanding, but they ‘feel’ the colours here and they ask for the best. They are behind their team, and they are loyal. They are the twelfth man on the pitch, and they will be with us and we have to motivate them. I like the group and Oviedo has to be together to reach the playoffs. "

Finally, regarding the squad and the addition of Jimmy, Egea commented that "we have a good squad. The logistics and methodology that are being used in the club are the right ones. Jimmy is a great example, I didn’t know much about him, but he is doing well. He played and earned a starting spot. He is an interesting footballer, from the team’s academy and we wish him the best," said the Argentine.
