Real Oviedo’s last home game prior to today took place in 2017. Today’s match began strangely out on the pitch; almost as if the Asturians had forgotten how to play at home. However, it would eventually turn out to be evidence of the need for faith, and of a team which never believes it is beaten. The match began with three changes enforced through suspensions, with the whole left side of the defence being reconstructed as Verdés, Valentini and Varela were introduced. Real Oviedo created their chances in bursts, and René saved the few clear opportunities that they did have. Linares had the best chances, twice going close to breaking the deadlock before the break. Almería had a lot of possession, but didn’t create any danger.
The second half commenced with the match still scoreless. The home side soon fell behind, but the encounter changed with the introduction of Toché and a tweak in the formation. Toché provided the equaliser following some fine combination play between Aarón, Saúl and Linares, and the Tartiere pushed their team on towards the comeback. Toché next turned creator, combining with Saúl and Linares to allow Berjón to make the score 2-1. Real Oviedo defended strongly until the end, as well as creating several chances to extend their lead on the counter attack. Real Oviedo held on to the three points at home once more, as the Tartiere again proved to be unbreakable.
