With 2,000 travelling Oviedistas in attendance, Real Oviedo did the hard part but fell just short. The team came back from a 2-0 deficit to level the scores, but Cristian Santos scored a winner for the hosts in the final minutes.

Sergio Egea opted for the same formation as he had used in the final preseason match. The three central midfielders, however, were not able to bring balance to the team in the opening minutes. The Asturians faced an uphill task after VAR overturned a goal from their former player, Koné, which had initially been disallowed. Mossa had the best chance for the visitors, but his shot was deflected wide for a corner.

Real Oviedo found things easier in the second half, both in terms of play and chances. Ortuño and Sangalli had three separate attempts from the same passage of play, but were denied once by the keeper and twice by blocks from defenders. Aketxe added a second for Dépor, but Real Oviedo responded well and the introduction of Obeng in attack saw them take a step further forward in attack. First, Lolo flicked a goal home from Saúl Berjón's free kick. The Captain himself then went close to adding a second, with his venemous strike hitting the crossbar. However, the equaliser came shortly afterwards, with Obeng heading home Sangalli's cross. The latter would then have an opportunity to give Los Azules the lead for the first time, as he met a corner on the volley, but he fired just wide. As Real Oviedo pushed on in search of a third, the hosts managed to grab the winner, as Cristian Santos scored to make the final score 3-2.
