Today saw the final home match of the season for Ziganda's side, with three points to seal survival at stake. The final clash of the season at the Carlos Tartiere was a vital one for Los Azules, and it ended in a 1-0 home win, thanks to a goal from Samuel Obeng.
Ziganda's team went out in search of the opening goal, and it would arrive within minutes of the kick-off. Obeng made the most of a good long ball by Grippo to lift the ball over the away keeper. Racing thought they'd equalised from the very next attack, but Nico Hidalgo's goal was ruled out for handball. Racing took control of the possession after that, but Ziganda's side displayed defensive solidity, not conceding any clear chances to the Cantabrians.
The match continued in the same fashion after the break, with Real Oviedo not conceding any clear opportunities to the opposition. Ibra had the best chance of the half from a Mossa cross, but the ball evaded him by mere centimetres. Real Oviedo managed to get the ball back off Racing de Santander in the final stages, and had several chances to seal the victory on the counter attack.
Union, commitment and hard work enabled Real Oviedo to seal survival and another season in LaLiga.
