Real Oviedo again demonstrated that humility, hard work, and unity meann that dreams can become a reality. The win against Sporting de Gijón meant much more for the Oviedistas than simply three points. The fans enjoyed it and were as proud as ever before; proud of their history, their present, and their players.
Anquela opted for his first choice starting eleven, and Real Oviedo took control of the match from the outset. Jony put the away side into the lead from a rebound from the very first Sporting attack, as the Real Oviedo defence failed to make the most of several opportunities to clear the ball. The Tartiere crowd pushed their lads on, although the team never let their heads drop anyway and continued to create chances. Half an hour into the match, Mossa came into the box from the left-hand side. Almost falling to the ground, he managed to get a shot in on goal to provide the equaliser. The Tartiere kept driving the team on, and the sides went in for halftime with the scores level.
Within seconds of the start of the second half, Mossa curled a fantastic shot from the right-hand side into the top corner of the net to give Real Oviedo the lead on the scoresheet. From that point on, the Carbayones fought, worked, and continued relentlessly with unbreakable pride, defending their advantage right up until the final whistle.
