Real Oviedo were in Monday-night action at the NMR Carlos Tartiere and ended up triumphing 3-1 over CD Lugo.
Ziganda was back in the dugout after overcoming Covid-19, and opted for a starting eleven made up of Femenías; Juanjo Nieto, Grippo, Bolaño, Mossa; Sangalli, Tejera, Edgar, Borja Sánchez; Nahuel and Blanco Leschuk. Los Azules went into the match looking to end the recent poor run of results, and eventually managed to do so.
The first half began with a harsh booking for Edgar inside the first minute of play. Real Oviedo were very well-organised at the back, although Lugo began to take control of possession. The visitors made the most of a counter attack to beat Femenías with a long-range strike from the left. After taking the lead, the away side looked to sit deep and do Real Oviedo further damage on the counter, but the Asturians started to dominate the ball. One passage of play from a corner kick saw a Lugo player handle the ball inside the area, and Ais Reig awarded Los Carbayones a penalty kick. Tejera converted the equaliser from the spot. Real Oviedo continued to dominate the ball in the final stages of the first half, but were unable to connect passes in attacking areas.
Los Carbayones emerged the stronger side for the second half and had the clear plan of pushing Lugo back. The visitors dropped deep and looked to do damage through high balls to Manu Barreiro. However, a Real Oviedo free kick was played into the box by Nahuel and saw Bolaño head home to make the score 2-1. Javi Mier came on to replace Nahuel, before Obeng and Carlos Hernández also entered the fray. Lugo went looking for an equaliser, putting Ziganda's side under some pressure, but defensive solidity meant that the Asturians did not suffer too badly. Just before added time, Los Azules put together a fine move from a short corner, which led to Juanjo Nieto firing home from the edge of the box to make the score 3-1. Viti replaced Tejera for the final minutes.
Real Oviedo got back to winning ways with this comeback victory, which serves to boost morale as well as the points tally for Ziganda's side. Los Azules will begin to prepare for Monday's encounter with Fuenlabrada from 10:30 tomorrow.
