It was the third match of the week for Real Oviedo and, following victory in Tenerife, Javi Rozada's side wanted to get their first Tartiere win of the season. There were three changes to the starting eleven from the team which started at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López in order to freshen the side up and prepare a game plan, as Los Azules came up against an opponent who arrived in Asturias having gone seven matches unbeaten.
The early minutes were strange due to a long pause in the play after Héctor Hernández suffered a serious injury and was taken to HUCA Hospital by ambulance. The Tartiere crowd applauded the Numancia man off. Real Oviedo began to get into the game and, having twice hit the post, took the lead through Yoel Bárcenas, who converted Saúl Berjón's ball in from the left in the 17th minute. Alfredo Ortuño had a good chance to extend the lead before the break, again from a Saúl Berjón ball in from the left. The forward got a touch on it, but the defender deflected it out for a corner. The first half couldn't have gone much better for the hosts, who were not threatened and played well when they had the ball.
The second half began with Nereo Champagne having to make an intervention to deny a Numancia attack, before Rozada made a double change, bringing on Jimmy and Borja in place of Joselu and Lolo. More Real Oviedo shots were denied, including two fine saves by the away keeper, Dani Barrio. A powerful Tejera strike from the edge of the box was heading into the bottom corner before it was parried out for a corner by the keeper. Champagne was also involved, including a triple save at one point, as he sought to keep Numancia at bay. Real Oviedo were holding on in the final stages, before a 90th minute strike from the edge of the box ricocheted off a defender, to be nudged home by Carlos Gutiérrez at the back post.
There was no time to respond, and the team and the fans once more went home disappointed.
