We had to wait nine matches, and suffer, but the first victory of the season has arrived. It came in Tenerife, three days after the draw against Real Zaragoza. Having made several changes to the starting eleven, the team gave absolutely everything to defend the lead which Bárcenas had given them after running onto an Omar Ramos through ball, with Omar shining on his return to his home island.
Sangalli moved to right back, while Omar and Bárcenas were on the wings and Edu Cortina and Borja Sánchez came back into the starting midfield. Rozada made changes to freshen things up and adjust the team to the opponent. Real Oviedo began well, with some attacks, but without creating any clear danger. In the 24th minute, however, Yoel Bárcenas converted a one-on-one against Ortolá, following a fine long through ball from Omar Ramos. Shortly afterwards, there was a heart-in-mouth moment, with a penalty being awarded against Los Azules, before VAR overruled the decision, due to an offside in the build-up. The Asturians went in for halftime in the lead.
Despite the changes to freshen the team up and the odd Real Oviedo attack, Tenerife dominated the second half, but without doing any damage. Real Oviedo fought and gave everything in defence, as well as having a couple of chances to seal the victory on the counter attack, which they were unable to make the most of.
The reward for Real Oviedo was a first victory of the season.
