Sergio Egea’s return to the Carlos Tartiere was almost perfect, but not quite. Real Oviedo went toe-to-toe with Granada and came from behind to draw. They had chances to claim the victory against a good Granada side, who are currently in an automatic-promotion spot.
Opting for an identical starting eleven to that seen in Almería, Real Oviedo produced a professional first-half performance, where they constantly pressed Granada, preventing the opposition from creating any chances during the first half. The hosts had several opportunities, meanwhile. Sergio Tejera’s effort grazed the post, before Christian Fernández met Saúl Berjón’s corner at the back post and nudged it just over the bar. Ibra also had a header denied by Rui Silva in the Granada goal.
The Andalusian side changed the script at the start of the second half. They switched to a more direct style to avoid the Asturians’ pressing, and their very first shot saw them open the scoring. Fede Vico made the score 1-0, and Real Oviedo took a few minutes to respond. Sergio Egea turned to his bench and brought on Viti and Toché, with the team gradually growing as the minutes ticked by. Ibra fired home a fantastic goal to equalise, and the team still had time to create two more chances in added time. The Senegalese striker went close to doubling his tally, but headed just over, before Folch was denied by the keeper.
The Tartiere crowd pushed its team on until full time, with the point earned leaving Real Oviedo three points off of the playoff positions. The next training session will be at 10:30 on Wednesday, as the team begins to prepare for Monday’s trip to Málaga.
