Real Oviedo picked up their first victory of the season in a high-scoring match, in which Anquela’s men never lost the lead after opening the scoring.
The Coach opted for the same starting eleven as last weekend, and the team didn’t take long to break the deadlock. Saúl Berjón combined perfectly with Yoel Bárcenas on the counter attack, before applying the finishing touch to score the first goal of the game. Real Oviedo took the lead on a boiling hot night in Córdoba, and the match soon became a festival of goals. Yoel Bárcenas had the next chance after some fine individual play but was denied by Stefanovic. However, the Panamanian made no mistake with his second chance. Just after the first stoppage for drinks, the winger received Toché’s pass and fired home to extend the lead. Tejera, who had a fantastic game in midfield, had the next chance. His low shot from the left, following a corner, was saved by the home goalkeeper.
Córdoba responded strongly after the break. Alfonso made a wonderful save to prevent them cutting the deficit, although they didn’t have to wait long. One minute later, Alejandro Alfaro pulled one back for Sandoval’s team, and the crowd at the Nuevo Arcángel attempted to cheer their side on to an equaliser. Javi Muñoz had a chance to extend the Asturians’ lead, but his effort from the left-hand side of the area just evaded the top corner. It would be Saúl Berjón who provided the third. A fine passage of play from Los Azules ended with Johannesson providing the assist from the right wing, and Saúl adding his second of the game. Forlín came on in place of Boateng to freshen the team up, but Jose Ramón Sandoval’s side continued to fight. Piovaccani cut the lead to 2-3 in the 72nd minute, and Saúl Berjón asked for a change. Aarón brought fresh legs to the attack, but it would again be Yoel Bárcenas who found the back of the net, making the score 2-4 and sealing the victory. The Panamanian provided a delightful finish, clipping the ball past the keeper, after receiving the ball from Toché on a quick counter attack.
A frenetic match ended with Real Oviedo’s hard work resulting in them taking their first three points of the season home from the Arcángel.
The next training session will be on Monday at 18:30, at El Requexón.
