Real Oviedo remain incapable of winning away from the Carlos Tartiere. Up against an Almería side in desperate need of points, they managed to dominate the first half and score a disallowed goal just before the interval. However, they were unable to get back on level terms after conceding the first goal, despite a multitude of opportunities.
The clash began with two Real Oviedo attacks. First Rocha tried his luck with a shot from the edge of the area in the opening minutes, and then the ball fell again to Rocha following some fine interplay between Johanesson and Saúl, but on this occasion, he was unable to get it under control. Juan Carlos kept hold of the only ball played in from the left wing with no problems, and despite Almería having more possession, they didn’t manage to trouble Real Oviedo. Just before half time, a fine header from Verdés from a set piece was kept out by the opposition keeper, with the ball then being bundled home but ultimately disallowed for a foul on Casto.
At the start of the second half, Almería broke the deadlock from a planned move. However, Los Azules were then to have their best spell of the match, with constant attacks and two clear chances. First, Linares fired wide from inside the six-yard box following Casto’s save, and then Verdés did the same following another save by Almería’s goalkeeper. With Real Oviedo piling forward in the attack, they were exposed at the back, and subsequently UD Almería managed to add their second and third goals, and seal the three points.
Real Oviedo will be back in training at El Requexón tomorrow, at 10:30.
