Copa del Rey action returned to the Carlos Tartiere tonight, following Los Carbayones' first-round victory in Torrelavega. This time Álvaro Cervera's team were up against an opponent in the same division in Granada, and went into the match with several changes to the starting eleven: Tomeu Nadal, Oier Luengo, Dani Calvo, Lucas, Abel Bretones, Mangel, Jimmy, Borja Sánchez, Viti, Koba Leïn and Obeng.
The match could not have got off to a better start for Los Azules. A lovely corner kick from Koba was headed home in style by Luengo, delighting the fans in the 8th minute.
The Andalusians did not threaten until the 30th minute. Bryan struck the ground from the visitors' best chance of the first half.
Real Oviedo had the opportunity to double the lead after some fine individual play from Viti on the verge of halftime, but the winger lacked the finishing touch.
As was to be expected, Granada surged forward in the second half, but some fine interventions from man of the match Tomeu Nadal saw Los Azules through to the third round of the Copa del Rey. Today was the day of Spain's Christmas Lottery, and it also saw Real Oviedo get its ball into Friday's third-round draw.
Los Azules will now enjoy five days of deserved rest, before heading back to training at 12:30 on 28th December at El Requexón.
