Real Oviedo travelled to Valencia this Saturday for the final game of the league season. Having defeated Racing de Santander at the Carlos Tartiere last time out, Los Azules made the trip for the Matchday 42 LaLiga SmartBank fixture against Levante UD. Álvaro Cervera opted for a starting eleven made up of Braat, Lucas, David Costas, Dani Calvo, Oier Luengo, Pomares, Yayo, Camarasa, Moro, Bretones and Masca.
The Asturians were looking to bid farewell to the campaign with another victory, which would be enough to guarantee seventh place in the table. The opening minutes were very even, with Real Oviedo looking to hurt Levante on the counter attack. Braat made a great save from a fine Joni Montiel effort from the edge of the box in the 30th minute, to keep the score 0-0. Los Carbayones knew how to deal with the threat of the hosts, although they would suffer a setback just before the interval, with Quentin Braat being forced off through an injury to his shoulder. Tomeu Nadal came on in his place.
A charge from Raúl Moro in the 59th minute ended in the opening goal of the encounter. The winger crossed the ball into the box and Postigo turned the ball into his own net, giving Real Oviedo a 1-0 lead. Los Azules had emerged strongly for the second half, and both Raúl Moro and Camarasa had previously had chances to break the deadlock.
However, the joy for Álvaro Cervera's side would not last long. In the 65th minute Jorge de Frutos equalised with a strike which left Tomeu Nadal helpless. The Coach turned to his bench as he went in search of three points, bringing on Hugo Rama and Manu Vallejo in place of Raúl Moro and Abel Bretones. It would be Levante, however, who grabbed a winner in added time, with Wesley capitalising on a loose ball inside the area to make the score 2-1 to the hosts.
Despite the defeat, Real Oviedo say goodbye to the 2022/23 season with 59 points, having picked up 19 of the last 24 points available.
