Real Oviedo tonight suffered a tough away defeat, losing 4-0 against Elche CF at the Martínez Valero in Matchday 16 in LaLiga Hypermotion. Two first-half goals had given the hosts a convincing half-time advantage, and they were able to seal a convincing win in the second half. The setback sees the Asturians finish the weekend in fifth place, on 26 points.
The match got off to a poor start for Los Azules. In just the 5th minute, the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on Diaby by Jaime Vázquez. Nico Fernández converted from the spot to give his side the lead. Los Carbayones looked to fight back and find an equaliser, but eventually Elche were able to extend their lead. Just before the interval Agustín Álvarez capitalised on a long ball to get in behind the Real Oviedo centre backs and beat Aarón Escandell.
Things did not improve after the interval, and in the 53rd minute Nico Fernández got on the scoresheet once more. The number 10 fired home from outside the box to make the score 3-0 and make things even more difficult for Real Oviedo. The Argentinian had the opportunity to seal his hattrick, but fired his second penalty kick of the match over the bar. Portillo, Moyano, Sibo, and Paraschiv entered the fray as second half substitutes, but the pattern of the game remained the same. In the 83rd minute, Nico Castro added the fourth and final goal for the home team.
This was a match to forget for Real Oviedo, who will look to bounce back as quickly as possible. Los Azules will face SD Huesca this Friday at the Carlos Tartiere.
