Real Oviedo played another preseason match on Saturday, as they look to go into the start of the new league campaign in the best-possible shape. Oviedo, who faced Real Racing Club in the Trofeo Villa de Grado, started with Aarón Escadell, Lucas, Rahim, Costas, Dani Calvo, Sibo, Del Moral, Dotor, Sebas, Paulino and Alemão.
Just 20 seconds into the game, the visitors took the lead with a goal from Karrikaburu. Javi Calleja’s team tried to recover and began to attack the visitors’ goal, but a stop from Parera prevented the equalizer. Two set piece chances, first from Sibo, and then from Dani Calvo, were the clearest opportunities of the first half for Real Oviedo, but the score stayed at 0-1. In the final stretch of the first half, Yeray took advantage of a well-executed team move to score the second goal and make it 0-2 at the interval.
In the second half, Sebas Moyano had a good shot that was blocked by Racing’s goalkeeper. Álex Cardero and Álex Millán came on in place of Sibo and Paulino, but the goal continued to elude Real Oviedo. In the 75th minute, Calleja brought on Luengo, Jaime Vázquez, Homenchenko, Borja Sánchez, Miguélez and Paraschiv for the last 15 minutes of the match. Real Oviedo fought to the end, but the result remained the same and the Trofeo Villa de Grado went to Santander.
With this match, Real Oviedo has now played their fifth preseason encounter of the summer, with a record of three wins, one draw, and one defeat. The team, now with two days off, will return to training at 18:30 on Tuesday at El Requexón.
