The third match of the season in LaLiga SmartBank saw Real Oviedo face CD Tenerife at the Carlos Tartiere today. 6,381 supporters were in attendance as the two sides played out a goalless draw.
Ziganda opted to stick to the same starting eleven which had begun the match last Friday in Almería, with new signings Carlos Isaac and Luismi on the bench for the first time. Los Azules took to the field with a line-up made up of Femenías; Lucas, David Costas, Dani Calvo, Pierre; Sangalli, Jimmy, Javi Mier; Viti, Borja Sánchez and Obeng as they went in search of victory.
The first half began with Real Oviedo controlling the ball and looking for quick transitions in play in order to make the most of the wingers and threaten from crosses into the box. Viti fired the first warning shot a few minutes after kick-off, but was denied by the keeper. Los Azules were well-organised in defence and pressed high as they looked to get the ball in to Samuel Obeng and build counter attacks. The best chance of the first half came from some fine play down the wing by Pierre and Borja Sánchez, with the latter crossing it in for Obeng. The Ghanaian forward was denied by the keeper, before a goalmouth scramble which saw Sangalli and Obeng denied once more. The team from the capital of Asturias continued to try to break the deadlock, although Tenerife did start to gain territory without threatening Femenías. The final moments of the first half saw the two teams share possession, with the match a battle for control of the midfield. Borja from some fine individual play, and Viti from a passage of pressing, had the two remaining chances before the interval.
The second half began in much the same fashion. Real Oviedo had the opening chances and dominated the early stages. The wings were important once more, bringing depth and mobility to the play. Ziganda's side enjoyed some very good minutes, with Pierre and Borja Sánchez providing a stream of danger. Jirka was brought on, before being followed on by Borja Bastón and Luismi. Matheus Aiás was the final change in a match which saw Real Oviedo end the game seeking to find a way through, but lacking the final ball.
Real Oviedo gained another point this evening, which felt bitter-sweet given the chances they had enjoyed. Ziganda's team will travel to El Alcoraz next time out to face SD Huesca.
