Following the draw at the Carlos Tartiere last time out, Real Oviedo travelled to Burgos for the first of two consecutive away fixtures, prior to the Asturian derby. Álvaro Cervera opted for a starting eleven made up of Leo Román, Mario Hernández, Costas, Calvo, Bretones, Luismi, Camarasa, Viti, Sebas Moyano, Seoane and Alemão.
Cheered on by more than 2,000 travelling Oviedistas at El Plantío, Real Oviedo got off to a bad start today, with the hosts taking the lead through Fer Niño in just the 14th minute. The forward guided a left-wing cross into the back of the net, getting the better of Leo Román. Shortly afterwards, the Asturians would go close for the first time. Viti made a run down the right-wing, crossed the ball in, and Sebas Moyano's header deflected off the defender for a corner.
The bad news continued for Cervera's side in the 39th minute, when Seoane saw a second yellow card and was dismissed on his Real Oviedo debut. In the final stages of the half Viti would have the visitors' best chance, but home keeper Caro made a fine save to deny the winger in the one-on-one.
Burgos were clearly on top during the opening 45 minutes, and it would be a long second half for 10-man Real Oviedo.
Los Azules kept attempting to threaten in the second half, bringing on changes to freshen up the team. Jimmy, Oier Luengo, and Paulino came on in place of Camarasa, Dani Calvo, and Mario Hernández in order to try to turn the encounter around.
The final stages would see Alemão go close in the 79th minute, while Paulino's effort was also denied in the 84th minute. The score would remain unchanged at El Plantío, on what was a disappointing afternoon in Burgos. The Asturians will now look to bounce back at 18:30 next Saturday, when they come up against Levante.
