El Municipal de Butarque today hosted Matchday 8 in LaLiga Smartbank, as CD Leganés faced Real Oviedo. The Madrid-based side triumphed 2-1.
Ziganda opted for widespread changes to the starting eleven in the midst of a hectic schedule of fixtures. The Coach made ten changes from Thursday's match at the NMR Carlos Tartiere for today's match against CD Leganés. Brazão, Johannesson, Arribas, Bolaño, Lucas, Aburjania, Jimmy, Viti, Cedric and Obeng all came into the starting line-up, in a match which was decided by Leganés' finishing ability. Real Oviedo stayed true to the customary image under Ziganda, with the defensive organisation which has characterised the side since the start of the season. Leganés were unable to create any clear chances in the first half, apart from forcing one fine intervention from Brazão. Real Oviedo, with Jimmy and Aburjania in the centre of the park, tried to create play, and Obeng fired across the goal in what was the best opportunity of the first half for Los Azules.
Shortly after the break, Ziganda made a quadruple substitution with the intention of freshening up the team, introducing Tejera, Nahuel, Sangalli and Juanjo Nieto into the fray. Leganés saw fortune favour them, as they managed to convert from a rebound inside the box to open the scoring. Ziganda's side pushed for an equaliser and tried to find a way past Cuéllar in the Leganés goal. A defensive error saw Leganés double their lead, however, before Samuel Obeng headed home a consolation goal from a late corner.
Following today's defeat at Butarque, Real Oviedo will begin to work towards Wednesday's fixture against Logroñés. The match will kick off at 21:30 at the NMR Carlos Tartiere.
