The club received the official statement from LaLiga this lunchtime, as informed by the Consejo Superior de Deportes, in which it was notified that
the next two matchdays in LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank will be held behind closed doors. Real Oviedo has since made the association aware that it wishes to request the postponement of the two said matches, against SD Ponferradina and RC Deportivo de la Coruña, which are both home games at the Carlos Tartiere. The argument for requesting the postponement of both matches is based on two factors:
1) Guaranteeing the health of the players, coaching staff, and other employees who work at the Carlos Tartiere stadium on matchdays.
2) The harm caused to our fans, who demonstrate their support towards the team and the club in every match, and who will be seriously affected by the decision to play the matches behind closed doors. Both matches should be played at a later date, with fans in the stands.
Real Oviedo will immediately be contacting the relevant parties at Ponferradina and Deportivo de La Coruña to inform them of our intention, and to urge them to join us in this request. They would do so in the knowledge that the health of those who participate directly or indirectly in a football match would otherwise be at risk, be it directors, footballers, coaching staff, or any other employees.
In addition, Real Oviedo will continue to implement all hygiene and prevention measures, as well as general recommendations for public health. We will listen at all times, as we have been doing all along, to the instructions given to us by the Ministry of Health, CSD, LaLiga, and other relevant bodies, in order to safeguard the health of everyone involved.
With respect to those season-ticket holders who had purchased companion tickets for this weekend's fixture against SD Ponferradina, these tickets can be returned and reimbursed in full in either the offices at the Carlos Tartiere, or in our official club shops. In the case of tickets purchased online, the money will be reimbursed automatically in the coming days.
Away from the first team, Real Oviedo would also like to communicate that it is suspending the training sessions of all its youth teams, with the exception of those of the two 'Juvenil' sides and Real Oviedo Vetusta, who will all train behind closed doors.
Those involved with the academy are now developing training plans to enable the young footballers to train in isolation.
