The full back was joined by Director of Football Roberto Suárez, who welcomed him and thanked him for his willingness to join up with the club's project. Suárez highlighted that "we needed a player of a certain profile, and Juanfran has all of the qualities that we required. He has experience, a lot of quality, and he is going to offer us variety in our play."
Juanfran, meanwhile, evaluated what it meant to him to join a club like Real Oviedo. "I am a lucky player. I haven't played for the top clubs, in terms of Real Madrid or FC Barcelona, but I have had a very nice career. I have played for Betis and Deportivo de la Coruña, with everything that those clubs mean, and I have also been lucky enough to go to CD Leganés and Málaga. Real Oviedo offered me more of the same. It gives me the chance to continue to represent a club with a huge fanbase."
Finally, with respect to the objective for the second half of the season, Juanfran reasoned that "mine is the same as that of Real Oviedo. I want to take it one game at a time, because we are at the stage of the season which is going to determine the direction we are going in. We have to put together three consecutive wins to move up the table. If not, we are going to be in no-mans-land. We are going to Huesca this weekend, which is a different ground to go to, and we are finding it hard away from home. I don't like to talk about long-term aims. The few times I have done that it hasn't gone well."
