Real Oviedo had to fight until the very end to pick up a point against CD Lugo, which saw the Asturians to prolong their unbeaten run to seven games.
Real Oviedo began the match with the same starting eleven which had won inm Murcia last weekend. Linares hit the back of the net three minutes into the match, but his goal was wrongly disallowed for a supposed offside. Just a few minutes later, CD Lugo took full advantage, with Seoane opening the scoring. Real Oviedo struggled to bounce back from the blow, but eventually they overcame the rain, the poor pitch condition and an opponent who lost control of the game and never again tested Juan Carlos. A free kick from Susaeta and a shot from Linares were the chances prior to halftime, but both were denied by the Galician side’s defence.
In the second half, Real Oviedo increased the pressure still further, pouring forward in attack in pursuit of the draw which wouldn’t arrive until the very end of the match. Linares fired Christian Fernández’s left wing cross over the bar. Toché then had a chance at the back post from Susaeta’s corner, but his header grazed the top of the bar. The forward then attempted to lob José Juan who was out of his goal, but couldn’t quite find the target. Christian Fernández also came close to grabbing the desired goal from a cross into the box which was heading straight into the goal before the goalkeeper got a hand to it. Michu, Pereira and Jorge Ortiz entered the fray to bring more energy to a Real Oviedo side who were still pushing forward in attack, with play concentrated in Lugo’s half. Finally, the goal would arrive, with Héctor Verdés meeting David Rocha’s centre, and giving Los Azules their just reward with two minutes of normal play remaining.
Following this draw, Real Oviedo have continued their positive run of results, and will tomorrow begin to prepare next Saturday’s game in Huesca (16:00).
