Real Oviedo went into Matchday 15 in LaLiga Hypermotion with the intention of getting a win which would allow them to continue climbing up the table. For the match against FC Cartagena at the Carlos Tartiere, Luis Carrión opted for a starting eleven made up of Leo Román, Lucas, Dani Calvo, David Costas, Abel, Colombatto, Camarasa, Sebas, Paulino, Seoane and Bastón.
The match got off to the worst-possible start for Los Azules. The visitors opened the scoring within the first two minutes of the encounter, with Iván Calero firing home from the first opportunity of the match to make the score 1-0. Real Oviedo looked to hit back following the setback, and had several chances during the first half.
Dani Calvo headed just over the bar from a free kick in the 18th minute, before Víctor Camarasa had another chance to equalise. The midfielder's shot from the edge of the box was off-target. Sebas Moyano would be next to go close, but his curled effort in first-half stoppage time went narrowly wide.
After the half-time interval Real Oviedo dominated the possession and the match. Bastón thought that he'd made the score 1-1 in the 59th minute, but his strike was ruled out for offside following a VAR check. The minutes ticked by but the scoreline remained the same, and Luis Carrión opted to make a triple substitution, bringing on Masca, Viti, and Alemão. The latter would go close with a headed effort which grazed the crossbar.
However, the Brazilian forward would be brought down for a penalty in the area in stoppage time. Paulino de la Fuente stepped up, and converted to make the score 1-1. Los Carbayones kept pushing to the death, but were unable to be rewarded with a second goal.
In the end the Asturians took a point from Matchday 15 in LaLiga Hypermotion, and thoughts now turn to Sunday's home league fixture against SD Eibar.
