Real Oviedo suffered a setback at the Carlos Belmonte, in a match in which Los Azules were unable to make the most of their initial lead to pick up at least a deserved point.
Both teams played defensively in the first half, with barely any chances created. Real Oviedo’s clearest chances fell to Verdés, from a corner, and then Yeboah, who fired a shot wide.
The second half saw Linares brought on as a substitute, and the arrival of the Real Oviedo goal. From Rocha’s free kick, Christian Fernández slotted home a rebound at the back post, making the score 1-0 to Real Oviedo. The joy would last barely five minutes however, as Vela fired home a powerful strike which Juan Carlos could do nothing about. Linares had a chance to restore the lead, but his header struck the crossbar. Five minutes later, Araujo scored from the edge of the box following an attack down the left, which was very reminiscent of the first goal. This second goal gave Albacete a 2-1 lead and would prove to be the winning goal. Real Oviedo fought for the draw to the end, but they left Albacete empty-handed.
The team will return to training at 18:00 on Wednesday, at El Requexón.
