The Carlos Tartiere today played host to Matchday 29 in LaLiga SmartBank, with Real Oviedo coming up against Real Sociedad B. The visitors would end the match with a 1-0 victory.
Cuco Ziganda, who was serving the second fixture of his two-match suspension and unable to sit on the bench, opted for a starting eleven made up of Femenías; Carlos Isaac, David Costas, Dani Calvo, Mossa; Viti, Luismi, Jimmy, Borja Sánchez; Samu Obeng and Borja Bastón. The match would be decided on the penalties either side were awarded in the final minutes.
The first half was hard-fought, with a very competitive opening to the encounter from both teams. Los Azules played a lot of long balls towards the box, looking to break through the defensive lines of Xabi Alonso's side. The two clearest opportunities of the opening forty-five minutes fell to Viti and Borja Bastón, who forced Zubiaurre into a double save. Bastón would head just over the bar from another chance a few minutes later.
Things continued in the same fashion after the interval. Real Oviedo kept trying, spending long spells in the visitors' half, but with La Real B well-organised to not give away chances to the Asturians. Sangalli and Joni Montiel came on in the first changes, followed by Pombo, and lastly Lucas and Matheus. The match ended with some high-intensity minutes. La Real B took the lead from the penalty spot after Carlos Isaac received a red card. Borja Bastón's penalty was then saved.
This setback at the Carlos Tartiere denies Los Azules the chance to end the night in the playoff places. Ziganda's team will be back in training this Sunday, as preparations begin for next Sunday's fixture against Girona CF.
