Real Oviedo didn’t come away with the prize that, for the game and the opportunites, they might have deserved in the Torneo Integra which was held this afternoon in El Berrón against Deportivo Alavés and Real Valladolid.
But they did come away with the satisfaction of having taken another step forward to being the team that Juan Antonio Anquela hopes to see in two weeks when LaLiga starts up. A razor-thin defeat against Deportivo Alavés in an isolated counter-attack after many opportunities for Real Oviedo, a legal goal that was called back for offside, and a 0-0 tie against Real Valladolid were the results of an afternoon brimming with Real Oviedo blue at El Berrón.
FIRST MATCH
Goals: Burgui (1-0), 30'.
Deportivo Alavés: Sivera, Vigaray, Duarte, Montoro, Diéguez, Ibai, Dani, Manu, Wakaso, Jony, and Sobrino. Also played: Lupu, Paulino, Burgui, Javi López, and Antonio.
Real Oviedo: Champagne; Carlos Martínez, Carlos Hernández, Christian
Fernández, Mossa; Folch, Boateng, Tejera, Viti, Aarón (Saúl, 15’), Toché.
Real Oviedo came out with more enthusiasm, intensity, game, and chances than a Deportivo Alavés side that had just prevailed by a razor-thin margin against Real Valladolid in the first match of the three way round-robin.
The first stages of the match allowed some forays for Real Oviedo but without any clear shots. Just after Saúl replaced Ararón, there was a ball from the left wing which passed very near the Basque team goal, but nobody was able to score. A little later, Alavés cleared off three consecutive shots, and Toché was the artist of the clearest one, although Sivera stopped his shot in the six-yard-box. Next, Alavés responded with a
counterattack led by Burgui that left him alone against Champagne, bringing the score to 1-0, which would make Alavés the champions. Toché almost tied the match on a legal goal, but it was annulled due to offside. Thus ended the first forty-five minutes.
SECOND MATCH (0-0)
Real Oviedo: Alfonso; Johannesson, Carlos Hernández, Christian Fernández, Mossa; Folch, Boateng, Tejera, Yoel, Saúl Berjón, and Steven. Also played: Javi Muñoz, Javi Hernández, Sandoval, and Borja Sánchez.
Real Valladolid: Samu Pérez, Antoñito, Carrascal, Salisu, Raúl Navarro, Waldo, Javi Pérez, El Hacen, Antonio Domínguez, Alcaraz, and Miguel.
With three changes to the starting eleven, including the changes of the goalkeeper and the central forward, Real Oviedo came out without much punch in their attack, but rather they used good organization and placement against a Real Valladolid side that practically didn’t put Alfonso’s goal in danger. Tejera finished a pass from Saúl from the left wing with a powerful shot that Samu Pérez cleared out with a great intervention which led to a corner. Anquela then introduced a few more changes, and Real Oviedo started to cause danger once again, with fouls as well as corners, dominating the match entirely and constantly getting into the rival’s
penalty box, but without finding the net.
With the support of the Oviedista fan base, Real Oviedo returned home to rest and to start another week of preseason training on Tuesday, the last week before the start of regular competition.
