Real Oviedo returned home for the Matchday 7 LaLiga Hypermotion fixture in search of three points. Having drawn with CD Eldense last time out, Los Azules welcomed SD Eibar to the Carlos Tartiere today, with the visitors unbeaten so far this season. With a full squad available to him, Javi Calleja opted for a starting eleven made up of Aarón Escandell, Luengo, Costas, Dani Calvo, Rahim, Colombatto, Seoane, Cazorla, Sebas Moyano, Chaira, and Alemão.
Following an even opening to the encounter, Luengo was the first to go close for Los Carbayones. Playing at right back today, the defender flashed a cross-shot across the face of the goal, but nobody was able to apply the finishing touch, and the ball was cleared for a corner. Just as Real Oviedo were threatening, Costas was shown a 31st minute red card. The referee had no doubts in the dismissal, but, following a VAR check, the decision was overturned due to an offside. The final stages of the opening 45 minutes saw various attacks from the Asturians, although they were unable to convert any of them. Sebas Moyano went closest in stoppage time, as his venemous strike from outside the box grazed the top corner.
The interval arrived at a perfect time for Real Oviedo, and the goal came just minutes after the match recommenced. Chaira won the ball back well in the opponent's half, before bursting forward and providing a perfect cross for Alemão to head home. Our side didn't take their foot off the accelerator after taking the lead, and continued to threaten. In the 65th minute Ilyas supplied another excellent through ball to leave Paulino one-on-one with the keeper, but the winger was thwarted by Daniel Fuzato. Two minutes later, Paulino almost doubled the lead once more. His header from an excellent Cazorla cross was kept out by the shot stopper. Real Oviedo continued to push forward, while the away team barely created any danger. Del Moral, Paraschiv, and Pomares came on in the final three changes, following the initial introductions of Sibo and Paulino de la Fuente.
In the end, Real Oviedo were able to secure a very important victory and move themselves onto eleven points, having taken seven of the last nine available. This was the second home victory of the campaign, and it came against one of the favourites for promotion.
