Real Oviedo played their first match under Álvaro Cervera tonight, with the new Head Coach opting for a starting eleven made up of Tomeu Nadal, David Costas, Luismi, Javi Mier, Viti, Borja, Luengo, Aceves, Montoro, Lucas and Abel Bretones.
The first half was not a particularly attractive affair, but the team's intensity was clear to see throughout the first 48 minutes, and the three minutes added time would bring good news for Los Carbayones. A fine counter attack saw the ball move from one wing to the other, with Viti backheeling the ball on to Lucas. The full back swung the ball into the box, and the move would end with Real Oviedo winning a penalty for a handball. Bastón converted from the spot to give the Asturians a 1-0 lead going in for the break.
The second half got underway with Real Oviedo getting forward into the opposition half more often, pressing the Andalusians high up the pitch. Álvaro Cervera's side gave very little away in defence and looked to extend the lead through attacks down the wings. The Coach brought on Sergi Enrich and Samuel Obeng to increase the team's presence in the opposing area even more. Marcelo Flores came on in the next change, before Hugo Rama entered the fray for the final minutes. Los Azules ended the match attempting to extend their advantage, but ultimately ended with a 1-0 win.
Today saw Real Oviedo secure three important points as they got back to winning ways after eight matches. Los Azules will travel to Vitoria next time out to face Deportivo Alavés.
