Today saw the first away match of the season, with Oviedistas travelling on mass and carrying their team forwards at El Sardinero. More than 2,000 fans flooded the streets of the Cantabrian capital and painted Santander blue. The match was declared high-risk, and Real Oviedo supporters suffered an attack in the hours leading up to the encounter.

Jon Pérez Bolo repeated the starting eleven used last time out, but the first half saw the team lacking the necessary fluency. Los Azules got forward and Rodri Tarín was first to try his luck as he met a set piece, before a Borja Bastón effort went just wide.

There were three changes at halftime and the second half began in a different manner. Borja Sánchez, Montoro and Koba entered the fray and the team was refreshed. VAR intervened after Rodri Tarín was fouled inside the area, with Borja Bastón converting from the spot to make the score 1-0. Racing de Santander pushed after going behind, but Real Oviedo defended solidly and professionally. Borja Sánchez had a chance to add a second, before the game moved into nine minutes of added time. Finally the Asturians were able to celebrate the victory, with the union between team and fans clear on display.
