The fourth consecutive victory wasn’t to be. Real Oviedo’s winning run came to a halt at La Romareda despite a professional defensive performance. The team withstood the early stages of the game well. Real Zaragoza dominated the play, but the Asturians tried to make the most of their chances on the counter. Bárcenas went close after dribbling and taking aim at the near post. Mossa also had a good chance as he met a cross at the back post, but his header was kept out. Finally, Johannesson was played in by Folch, but then robbed by the defender. Champagne made a good save on the brink of halftime to frustrate the home side’s best chance.
Things continued in a similar manner in the second half. Yoel Bárcenas was awarded a stonewall penalty in the 60th minute, giving ‘Los Azules’ the chance to take the lead. However, Alanís was denied by Cristian Álvarez. Zaragoza pushed forward, but Champagne stood up to them. Joselu put in a fine cross that neither Mossa or Bárcenas could get on the end of. Finally, the visitors were unfortunate to concede on the counter attack, from a move which included both an offside and a foul on Johannesson. Álvaro Vázquez converted to make the score 1-0, but Real Oviedo didn’t lose hope. Toché came on, and the away side pushed for an equaliser. However, as the team pushed forward, Álvaro Vázquez added his second with a scorpion kick, sealing a 2-0 victory for the hosts.
