Following victory in Miranda, Real Oviedo faced the task of continuing to add points away from home. Although they couldn’t replicate the three points, they did manage to gain a draw, and pushed for victory until the very end at Estadi Municipal de Reus.
The home side took the lead in a first half which they dominated for long spells. Real Oviedo made only one change from last week’s starting eleven against Getafe, with Jon Erice replacing Rocha, but struggled to neutralise the tempo of Reus’ ball possession. Eventually Reus took the lead, with the ball rebounding out to the edge of the box and being curled home into the top corner. Real Oviedo’s only attacking opportunities prior to the break came from a long-range effort from Toché which went over the top, and a blocked shot from Saúl Berjón.
After the interval, Real Oviedo emerged with more character and especially more ball control. The passes began to connect and the attacking play was more direct, eventually leading to the equaliser. It came from a fine attacking move, with Susaeta hitting a cross-field ball out to the left-wing, before Christian swung a cross into the box. The Galician central midfielder, Borja Domínguez, met the cross on the volley and notched the equalising goal. He made amends for overthinking a chance from the edge of the area minutes earlier, where he had eventually been denied by the home defence. Michu and Nando came on to provide fresh legs in attack in search of the three points, during Real Oviedo’s best period of the game, but Reus were able to deny the many set piece opportunities.
The point moves Real Oviedo up to third in the table, albeit with the rest of the league yet to play on this match day. The team will return to Asturias first thing tomorrow morning, and will train at El Requexón as soon as they get back.
