Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared before the press this morning following the team’s training session at El Requexón.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s match against Lorca at the Carlos Tartiere, the Coach began by analysing the work done by the team during the week. “We go into it in good shape. The week has passed without issues, we have worked hard and come up with some ideas. The problem comes on Sunday and we have to do things well.”
With respect to the team’s form in recent matches, the Carbayón Coach admitted that, “there were periods of the season when we were a team that nobody wanted to play against, and now every opponent feels comfortable. Right now, there are some doubts surrounding us and our opponents have beaten us fairly. It’s all about competing, running, working hard, and playing to our strengths. We are no better than anybody else, and it’s a mistake to think that we are. We have to be solid, work hard and play well. There’s no more to it.” In addition, regarding the keys to getting a good result against Lorca, Anquela believes that “it’s all about attitude and desire. We have to respect Lorca. They have played well and won in their recent matches. There are three points at stake that mean everything.”
Talking about the atmosphere he expects to see during Sunday’s match, the Coach recalled that, “I once said that the Tartiere eats players up, and if we don’t play well on Sunday then that is what will happen to us. I ask the fans to back us and support us, because we have a lot at stake. We aren’t playing at the necessary level and we can’t fool them, but we need to make them believe in us.”
Asked what the team is missing in order to return to how it was during the first half of the season, when they put together a run of ten matches unbeaten, the Real Oviedo Coach admitted that, “we are missing a lot of things. We have been getting what we’ve deserved in losing, but on Sunday we have a chance to turn things around. We are the same team that was up at the top during one stage of the season. We can’t forget how we got here. We are the same team, with the same ideas, and we have to be willing to die for the cause. We need to use our weapons.” Juan Antonio Anquela also added that “we have lost some intensity. I’ve been telling them what the Segunda División involves all along. We can turn things around as a team.”
Finally, with respect to his future, Anquela was clear in stating that “right now I am only thinking about Real Oviedo. I am very happy here and I would like to stay at this club for many years. I’ve not looked elsewhere. I am focused on the day-to-day work with this team, because it’s where I want to be. I have to win myself the right to stay here, and I will try to do that through hard work every week,” he concluded.
